Prodways has added a new ProMaker P4500 series to its range of machines laser sintering machines.
Prodways is continuing its partnership with the Chinese company Farsoon so this new series make use of the same technology as previous printers.
These machines have a high-speed digital scanning system and large effective build platform. There is a new 600 mm cartridge option allowing higher build volume for optimized productivity. For now the build size is 400 x 400 x 450mm, but Prodways is also developing a larger 400 x 400 x 600mm option. This is important as it will open up markets that need bigger parts, particularly automotive and aerospace, for Prodways
The series use the same eight-zone heater system and intelligent temperature control technology as its older machines, which should in theory lead to more accurate parts with better mechanical properties.
There are four different models in the P4500 series, starting with the standard 4500SD, which uses a 30w laser. There’s a high speed version, the 4500HS, which has a 60w laser, and a more fully featured model, the 4500X, which has a 1000w laser. These first three machines are essentially targeted at the same market segment as the existing P1000 and P2000 models and will ultimately replace them.
But by far the most interesting of this series is the P4500 HT that’s on the stand at Formnext. This can work at high temperatures up to 220ºC, which allows for the use of new powders, such as Ultrasint PA6 - X028 from BASF that can be used for the production of high performance functional parts, for example replacing metal parts for hot engine components. This has come about as a direct result of a partnership agreement between Prodways and BASF to develop laser sintering materials. Thus this PA6 material allows for more complex structures, with similar mechanical resistance, hardness and thermal stability as parts produced with PA6 via injection molding.
However, Prodways has an open approach to materials so that customers are free to source powders elsewhere, and Prodways own materials supplies division also sells powders for use with competing machines
The whole P4500 series should be available next year.
