FIT and NIK form joint venture additive manufacturing company called FITNIK

Carl Fruth, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of FIT, and Alexander Korneev, CEO of NIK

FIT—a German provider of prototyping and additive design and manufacturing (ADM) services—and NIK, a Russian provider of engineering and consultancy services primarily to the aviation industry, have formed a joint venture additive manufacturing (AM) company called FITNIK to increase the Russian aviation market’s exposure to additive manufacturing (AM).

FITNIK is expected to leverage the companies’ consultancy proficiencies in using additive technologies in order to significantly improve the design and production of aviation parts for their Russian as well as international customers.

The new company is located in Zhukovsky, a city 40 kilometers southeast of Moscow and home to the Zhukovsky Institute National Research Centre—a Federal Government entity set up in 2014 to lead and coordinate scientific research, introduce new technologies and oversee new developments in aviation manufacturing. Zhukovsky is considered the ideal choice on account of it being known for ‘inspiring creative innovation and affording access to exceptional expertise and talent’.

FITNIK is scheduled to open for business in January 2018 and production is expected to be fully operational in two years.

Commenting on the formation of FITNIK, Carl Fruth, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of FIT, said: Through FITNIK, we gain incredible synergy. Not only are we able to penetrate the Russian market very quickly via access to many target markets, this joint venture also gives us the opportunity to offer our international customers qualified additive engineering at very competitive prices. We are happy to team up with NIK.’

Alexander Korneev, CEO of NIK, added: By creating this joint venture, we are ensuring a robust manufacturing process, incorporating the entire chain of product creation with the help of additive technologies—from designing, according to the customer’s specifications, to production implementation, certification and post-production support. FITNIK combines the expertise of two leading companies regarding additive design and manufacturing, thereby allowing for the realization of truly comprehensive services.’
